Ismail, Shirin win fastest man, woman title

DHAKA, April 3, 2021 (BSS)- Bangladesh Navy’s athlete Ismail Hossain and Shirin Akter won the fasted man and woman title of the Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games athletics event held today at Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Ismail took 10.50 seconds to win the fastest man title and his teammate Abdul Rauf secured the silver clocking 10.60 seconds while Nayeem Islam of Air Force bagged the bronze medal taking the time of 10.70 seconds.

Ismail in his reaction said: ‘This is my first gold in the Bangladesh Games and fourth gold in sprint overall…… I won silver in the long jump in 2013….. I am happy with this performance.”

Meanwhile, Shirin Akhter of the Navy won the title of fastest woman with a gold medal clocking 11.60 seconds.

In this event, Bangladesh Army’s Sharifa Khatun bagged silver with a time of 11.70 seconds and BKSP’s Sonia Akhter won bronze clocking 12.10 seconds.

The celebrated athlete said it was her first gold in Bangladesh Games. Earlier, she finished second position in the 8th Bangladesh Games.

She also recalled the contribution of Bangladesh Navy, Federation and Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) behind her success of winning the gold.

Shirin said her coach Abdullah Hale Kafi worked hard for her success and she become the fastest woman twelve times in a row which is the record of Bangladesh.
