Maldives Defense Chief pays courtesy call on Bangladesh Army Cheif

DHAKA, 01 Apr, 2021 (BSS)- Major General Abdullah Shamal, Chief of Defense Staff of the Maldives visiting Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed at the Army Headquarters today.

During the meeting, they exchanged greetings and discussed various issues related to the existing good relations between the armed forces of the two countries and mutual cooperation in the future, said a press release here.

The talks focused on conducting joint training with the participation of the armies from both the countries, exchanging expertise on defense, mutual defense cooperation, goodwill visits and providing medical assistance to combat the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic.

Before meeting the Chief of Army Staff in the morning, the Chief of Defense Staff of the Maldives paid homage to the memory of the heroic martyrs of the great war of independence of Bangladesh by laying a wreath at Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment.

He was then given a Guard of Honor by Bangladesh Army at Senakunja, here. At the end of the Guard of Honor, Major General Abdullah Shamal planted a tree on Senakunja premises.

A five-member Maldivian Defense Forces delegation led by Major General Abdullah Shamal arrived in Dhaka on March 31, 2021 on a seven-day state visit, said the release.

The delegation will visit Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, Liberation War Museum, Nilgiri in Bandarban, Bangladesh Military Academy, Khulna Shipyard, Sundarbans, National Defense College and Defense Service Command and Staff College.

At the end of the visit, the delegation is expected to return to the Maldives on 07 April.
