Razzaque for united efforts of all to harvest Boro paddy for food security

DHAKA, April 01, 2021 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque today urged all to work collectively for harvesting Boro paddy in ensuring food security in the country.

“If Boro paddy can be brought home successfully all over the country, there will be no risk with food in the country. Therefore, the whole nation must come forward collectively for the successful harvesting of Boro paddy,” he said.

The minister made the remarks online from the conference room of the ministry here while inaugurating the Boro paddy harvesting programme at Astana village of Joykalash Union in South Sunamganj upazila of Sunamganj district.

He said the Boro season produces the most rice in the country and that is why it is very important to cut Boro paddy all over the country including haor areas.

He said the target for Boro paddy cultivation was set in about 48 lakh hectares of land this year.

Exceeding this target, Boro paddy has been cultivated in 48 lakh 83 thousand hectares of land across the country, he said, adding that as a result, Boro has been planted on 83,000 hectares of land which is more than the target.

In addition, due to higher productivity, emphasis was laid on increasing the cultivation of hybrid varieties of paddy this year, he said.

Therefore, the cultivation of hybrids has increased in about 3 lakh hectares of land as compared to last year, he said.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Md Mesbahul Islam, senior officials of the agriculture ministry and the Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) were present.

Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj Md Jahangir Hossain presided over the virtual programme.
