Freedom fighters are best children of the nation: Speaker

RANGPUR, March 27, 2021 (B SS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said freedom fighters (FFs) are the best children of the nation.

“Freedom fighters jumped into a bloody war against the invading forces at the call of great leader Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to free the motherland from the chain of subjugation, not out of any desire,” she said.

The Speaker as the chief guest said this while virtually addressing a function arranged for reception to freedom fighters at Pirganj upazila parishad auditorium in Pirganj upazila of the district.

She expressed her respectful salutations and humble respects to all freedom fighters on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence in the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Dr. Shirin expressed deep sorrow over the death of 17 Pirganj residents in a road accident at Kantakhali in Rajshahi and prayed for divine blessings for forgiveness of their departed souls.

Dr. Shirin said freedom fighters spontaneously participated in the War of Liberation with arms in hands in 1971 without thinking about themselves and their families.

“Our freedom has been achieved in exchange for thirty lakh martyrs and losing respect for our two lakh mothers and sisters,” she said.

The Speaker said Bangabandhu, the greatest Bengali of all time, remained steadfast in the movement for establishment of rights of the Bengali despite enduring long struggle, jail, oppression and torture.

Responding to Bangabandhu’s call, freedom fighters took part in the war and liberated the country and so why the Bengali nation is able to stand on the chest of the world today.

“Bangladesh is established as a dignified state and appreciated all over the world following massive developments achieved through the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, able daughter of Bangabandhu,” she said.

Today’s Bangladesh has come out from the least developed country status and entered into the developing country status.

The government started its journey with the promise of Vision 2021 implementation of which is nearing completion now.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set up a unique precedent by giving shelter to nine lakh homeless and landless people in the Mujib Year,” she said, adding that Sheikh Hasina’s government has taken appropriate steps to honour all freedom fighters.

The Speaker presented honorary mementos to 68 freedom fighters including Md. Nurul Haque, Abdul Hadi, Abdur Rob, Md. Fazlar Rahman, Abul Kalam Azad, Md Nurul Islam and Md. Zillur Rahman Sarkar.

Pirganj Upazila Awami League President Azizur Rahman Ranga presided over the function moderated by Pirganj Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Pirganj Municipality Mayor ASM Tazimul Islam Shamim.

Local leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies, dignitaries and journalists were present.
