DUJ pays tribute to Bangabandhu on Independence Day
DHAKA, March 26, 2021 (BSS) – Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait at National Press Club in the early hours of Independence Day today.
DUJ President Quddus Afrad presided over the function, while former President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul and President of National Press Club Farida Yasmeen were present at the function.
Earlier, the journalist leaders paid homage to the martyrs of March 25 Genocide by lighting candles at the premises of the National Press Club at 11 pm on March 25. They reiterated the demand of international recognition of March 25 genocide.
Former President of DUJ Kazi Rafique, Acting Secretary General of BFUJ Abdul Majid, Joint Secretary of DUJ Khairul Alam, Treasurer Ashraful Islam, Sports Secretary Dulal Khan, Publicity Secretary Ashaduzzaman, member secretary of Swadhinata Sangbadik Parishad Hamid Mohammad Jasim, President of Bangabandhu Sangbadik Parishad Subhas Chanda Badal, Publicity Secretary of Muktijoddhar Sontan Sangbadik Forum Shahnaz Siddiqui Soma also addressed the function.
DUJ Organizing Secretary A Jihadur Rahman Jihad, executive member Shanaj Elice, Raju Ahmed and Jobayer Chowdhury were present, among others.
Quddus Afrad at the function said besides the government, everyone should play an active role for the international recognition of the March 25 genocide.
He called for publishing more news highlighting the brutality of the genocide. Journalists should be united in the spirit of liberation war, he added.
Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul said that on the night of March 25, Peelkhana, Rajarbagh as well as the daily news including National Press Club and various media including daily Sangbad and Ittefaq became the target of the Pakistani occupation army.
Even then, journalists have worked for the independence of their country and many embraced martyrdom, he added.
Bulbul called for the publication of more research and investigative reports on the liberation war.
Farida Yasmeen said international recognition of Genocide Day is needed and the government is working for this and journalist community should also stand by the side of the government in this regard.
