Erdogan lauds Bangabandhu’s struggle for Bangladesh

DHAKA, March 26, 2021 (BSS) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today lauded the sacrifices of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saying Bangabandhu has taken his place among the prominent statesmen of the twentieth century with struggles and sacrifices he made for his nation.

“Honorable Prime Minister . . . Your esteemed father, the founding president of Bangladesh late Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has taken his place among the prominent statesmen of the twentieth century with the struggles he went through and the sacrifices he made for his nation throughout his life,” he said in a written message to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The message read out by Turkish ambassador to Bangladesh Mustafa Osman was screened at the concluding ceremony of the 10-day special programme at the national parade ground here marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the country’s independence.

President M Abdul Hamid addressed the function as chief guest while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed it as the guest of honour with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Erdogan said the sentiment of brotherhood among the peoples of the two countries (Bangladesh and Turkey), which is rooted in common historical and cultural heritage, strengthens the further development of existing relations between the two countries.

“I would like to share with you my belief that, in 2021 as the golden jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh is being observed, we will deepen our relations and cooperation, which were strengthened with our joint efforts in 2020 declared as “Mujib Borsho” on the occasion of his 100th birthday, on all areas on the basis of the common interest of our peoples,” he added.

He conveyed his sincere congratulations to the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence.
