COVID-19 cases reach 16,144 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 26, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases
reached 16,144 in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising
hastily in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 16,144 as 40
more patients were reported after testing 357 samples at the infection rate
of 11.20 percent on Wednesday, the highest infection rate in the last three
months, in the division.

“The daily COVID-19 infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24
last for the first time since December 26 last year in Rangpur division,”
Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division
Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

“The district-wise break up of total 16,144 patients stands at 4,152 in
Rangpur, 800 in Panchagarh, 1,380 in Nilphamari, 970 in Lalmonirhat, 1,030 in
Kurigram, 1,527 in Thakurgaon, 4,797 in Dinajpur and 1,488 in Gaibandha,” Dr.
Siddiqui said.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,12,958 collected samples were tested in
the division till Thursday, and of them, 16,144 were found COVID-19 positive
with an average infection rate of over 14.20 percent.

Meanwhile the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,589 with
recovery of eight more patients on Thursday at the average recovery rate of
96.56 percent in the division.

The 15,589 recovered patients include 3,990 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh,
1,328 of Nilphamari, 955 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,483 of
Thakurgaon, 4,626 of Dinajpur and 1,454 of Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said
the number of fatalities remained steady at 212 with no more death reported
from anywhere in the division on Thursday.

The district-wise break up of the 312 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur,
111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in
Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,”
he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 16,104 COVID-19 infected patients, 17 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,589 patients and 312
deaths while 226 remaining in home isolation across the division.

A total of 5,22,038 citizens, including 3,15,922 male and 2,06,116 female
of all eight districts in the division, were vaccinated till Thursday since
launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7 last,, Dr. Ali
said.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu
suggested people to abide by the health directives as the infection rate
continues rising again.
