Genocide Day observed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 25, 2021 (BSS) – The Genocide Day-2021 was observed today
paying rich tribute to the martyred unarmed Bangalees on March 25 in 1971
with a renewed pledge for global recognition of March 25 as the International
Genocide Day.

The district administration, Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies,
Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee (GDNC), Sector Commanders’ Forum (SCF) and many
other organisations observed the day through daylong programmes.

The programmes included memorial discussions at Town Hall auditorium and
other venues with participation of freedom fighters, politicians and noted
personalities on the genocide committed by the Pakistani occupation army at
that black night in 1971.

The District Information Office screened rare photographs and documentary
films on the genocide at cinema halls and open places in the city.

Special munajats and prayers were offered at mosques, temples, pagodas and
churches and other places of worship seeking divine blessings and eternal
peace for departed souls of the martyred Bangalees on March 25 in 1971.

Different cultural organisations staged dramas and arranged cultural
programmes on the genocide committed by the Pakistani occupation army and War
of Liberation followed by a discussion at Town Hall auditorium in the
evening.

At 7 pm, Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan inaugurated a candle-lit
programme at the central Shaheed Minar premises on the Public Library ground
in the city in the memory of the martyrs of that black night.

A one-minute symbolic black-out programme will be observed from 9 pm to
9:01 pm across the city tonight.

Besides, the programmes chalked out by district and city units of AL and
its associate bodies, GDNC, SCF and other organisations included placing of
wreaths at mass graves, monument of martyred freedom fighters, human chains,
lighting candles and discussions.

Speakers in the discussed narrated unprecedented genocide committed by the
Pakistani occupation army on this soil on March 25 in 1971 and demanded for
global recognition of March 25 as the International Genocide Day to uphold
dignity of the humanity.
