Three killed in clash over eve-teasing in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, March 25, 2021 (BSS) – Three youths were killed after a heated argument over eve-teasing sparked a violent confrontation between two groups of people at North Islampur area in Munshiganj town yesterday night.

The deceased were identified as Emon Pathan, 23, son of Qasim Pathan resident of North Islampur area, Shakib Miah, 19, son of Bachchu Miah and Awlad Hossain Mintu, 40, son of late Anwar Ali resident of North Islampur area in the district.

According to police and local sources, a clash erupted between local teenagers Avi and Emon for eve-teasing. Later, Emon Pathan’s elder brother Mintu called Avi again and slapped him. The incident occurred at around 9 pm on Wednesday.

Later, an arbitration meeting was held in front of Mintu’s house. As the meeting was about to end, the people of Avi group suddenly stabbed three people, leaving them critically injured. Local people rushed to the spot and took trio to the hospital.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Munshiganj Thana Abu Bakr Siddique said that Saurav, Avi and Shamim’s groups were involved in the attack. Police arrested 10 people in this connection.

The OC said that the critically injured people were first taken to the General Hospital, where duty doctors declared Emon Pathan dead.

Later, Shakib Miah with stomach and chest injuries and Awlad Hossain Mintu with chest and body injuries were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

After shifting them there, the doctor declared Shakib Miah dead on Wednesday night. Mintu Pradhan died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital this noon.
