Mechanisation of agriculture to increase crop output stressed

RANGPUR, March 25, 2021 (BSS) – Agriculturists at a function have stressed
on mechanisation of agriculture adopting modern technologies to increase crop
production for ensuring food security despite adverse impacts of climate
change.

They said this at the concluding function of a three-day ‘Agriculture
Fair-2021’ organised by the Sadar Upazila Department of Agricultural
Extension (DAE) at Panchagarh district town this afternoon.

The Rangpur Division Agriculture and Rural Development Project of the DAE
extended assistance in arranging the fair abiding by the health directives in
the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to introduce farmers with
modern agricultural technologies.

Farmers, different departments and organisations set up 20 stalls on the
fairground displaying modern agriculture technologies and machineries and
focusing achievements by farmers in farm-activities.

With Deputy of the DAE for Panchagarh Agriculturist Md Mizanur Rahman in
the chair, Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Dr Sabina Yasmin addressed the
concluding faction and distributed agri-tech machineries among farmers as the
chief guest.

Superintendent of Police for Panchagarh Mohammad Yusuf Ali, Sadar Upazila
Chairman Amirul Islam, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Arif Hossain and
Sadar Upazila Vice-chairman Kazi Al Tariq addressed as special guests.

Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Shah Alam
delivered a welcome speech.

Agriculturist Rahman said the country has achieved epoch-making success in
increasing crop production following pragmatic and time-befitting steps taken
by the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the last 12 years.

“Braving the COVID-19 pandemic, farmers are producing 30 to 32 mounds of
paddy per bigha of land using modern technologies and subsidies being
provided by the government towards the directions against 10 to 12 mounds in
the pasts,” he said.

Thanking farmers for enhancing crop production facing the COVID-19
pandemic, the chief guest said the present government puts maximum emphasis
on adapting to climate change for keeping crop production increasing to
ensure food security.

She especially urged farmers for ensuring best use of cultivable land and
expanding adoption of modern agriculture technologies and machineries to
increase crop production consistently at reduced cost to meet food demand for
the growing population.

She also distributed cash money as prizes and crests among three best
stall owners for displaying best agriculture technologies and achievements in
the fair.
