Adequate rehabilitation needed for drug addicts recovery

RAJSHAHI, March 20, 2021 (BSS)- Adequate rehabilitation and treatment
can be the vital means of recovering the persons addicted to various drugs
and narcotics to make sure their normal life.

Ensuring modern and adequate safe treatment facilities towards the drug
addicts has become crucial because addiction can tear families and destroy
lives.

The observation came in the Rajshahi Divisional Recovery Conference- 2021
at Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Zila Parishad Auditorium in Rajshahi city today.

Rajshahi Divisional Office of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC)
hosted the conference attended by around 470 recovered persons from 47
rehabilitation centres in eight districts under the division.

Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr Humayun Kabir addressed the meeting
as chief guest, while Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Baten,
Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Abu Kalam Siddique and
Superintendent of Police Masud Hossain spoke as special guests with
Additional District Magistrate Abu Aslam in the chair.

DNC Additional Director Jafarullah Kajal welcomed the participants.

In his remarks, Dr Humayun Kabir stressed on social responsibility to
bring back the persons, the youths in particular, involved in trading,
addiction and trafficking of drugs to normal life.

The communities side by side with the law-enforcing agencies and other
government organizations concerned should come forward and work together to
protect people from deadly consequences of the crimes, he added.

The people who inject drugs and suffer from addiction need a great deal
of professional help to overcome this disease. Drug addiction and HIV/AIDS
are interlinked. So, there is no alternative to concerted efforts.

He also urged others to return back on the right track for betterment of
the society.

RMP Commissioner Kalam Siddique said collective efforts of all government
and non-government organisations concerned are very important for
strengthening the grassroots level anti-drug campaign.

He also opined that there is no alternative to make all the existing
movements and efforts of preventing drug abuse effective and fruitful to
protect the young generation from further degradation.
