DHAKA, March 17, 2021 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today paid rich tributes to Father
of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking his 101st birth anniversary and
the National Children’s Day-2021.

The President paid homage by placing a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu, the
greatest Bangalee of all times, in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No. 32 here early this morning.

After placing the wreath, he stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound
respect to the memory of the country’s founding father while the bugle played the last post.

A smartly turned out contingent drawn from Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force gave an
honour guard on the occasion.

President Hamid offered Fateha and joined a munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed
souls of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.

Prayers were also offered for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country
as well as the nation.

Earlier on his arrival on Dhanmondi 32 number premises, the President was received by Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina.

PM’s Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon told BSS that Bangabandhu’s younger daughter Sheikh Rehana, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain were present.

On March 17, one hundred years ago, Bangabandhu, the greatest Bangalee of all
times, was born to a respected family at Tungipara village of the then Gopalganj sub-
division, now a district as the third among six children of Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and Saira
Khatun.

The government earlier declared the period from March 17, 2020 to March 26, 2021 as the
“Mujib Borsho” (Mujib Year) marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu. The period was later extended till December 16 this year.

Along with Bangladesh, the Mujib Year is being celebrated globally with the initiative
of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
