Bangabandhu National Archery Championship formally kicks off

DHAKA, March 2, 2021 (BSS) – The Bangabandhu 12th National Archery Championship began today with the qualification round matches at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP, formally inaugurated the five-day championship as the chief guest in the afternoon.

Youth and Sports Ministry’s Additional Secretary (Sports-1) Mohammad Abdul Karim and Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mamunur Rashid were present as the special guests.

City Group senior deputy brand manager Rubaiyat Ahmed, Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) president Lieutenant General Mohammad Moinul Islam (retd.), BAF vice presidents Anisur Rahman Dipu and Subrata Mujumder, and BAF general secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal, were among others, also present in the opening ceremony.

On the first day of the recurve men’s singles events, Ramkrishna Saha (Bangladesh Air Force), Shakib Mollah (Bangladesh Ansar), Taminul Islam of Bangladesh Police Archery Club) and Abdur Rahman Alif (Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan (BKSP) and Sagar Islam (Dhaka District Sports Association) finished first, second, third, fourth and fifth position after scoring 657, 654, 653, 647 and 646 respectively.

In the recurve women’s singles events, Mehnaz Akter Monira (Dhaka Army Archery Club), Mosammat Eti Khatun (Bangladesh Police Archery Club), Beauty Roy (Bangladesh Police Archery Club), Diya Siddique (BKSP), and Nasrin Akter (Dhaka Army Archery Club) finished first, second , third, fourth and fifth position scoring 615, 607, 605, 604 and 593 respectively.

In the men’s recurve team event, ace archer Ruman Sana, Shakib Mollah and Imdadul Haque Milon of Bangladesh Ansar emerged top after scoring 1924, Mohammad Tamimul Haque, Hakim Ahmed Rubel and Al Amin of Bangladesh Police Archery Club finished second after scoring 1913 and Abdur Rahman Alif, Prodipto Chakma and Sheikh Sajib of BKSP finished third position after scoring 1903 among the sixteen teams.

In the recurve women’s team event, Mejnaz Akter Monira, Rabeya Akter and Nasrin Akter of Dhaka Army Archery Club emerged top after scoring 1756 and Beauty Roy, Mosammat Eti Khatun and Mosammat Radiya Akter Shapla of Bangladesh Police Archery Club placed at second position scoring 1719 while Diya Siddique, Fahmida Sultana Nesha and Ummaching Marma of BKPS finished third position after scoring 1685 among the six teams.

In the recurve mixed team event events, Mohammad Tamimul Islam and Mosammat Eti Khatun of Bangladesh Police Archery Club emerged the top after scoring 1260 and Abddur Rahman Alif and Diya Siddique of BKSP placed at second position scoring 1251 and Shakib Mollah and Mosammat Nazmin Khatun of Bangladesh Ansar finished third position after scoring 1229 among the fifteen teams.

In the compound men’s singles events, Asim Kukamr Das (Dhaka Army Archery Club), Mohammad Ashikuzzaman (Bangladesh Police Archery Club), Mithu Rahman (Dhaka Army Archery Club), Sohel Rana (Dhaka Army Archery Club) and Hemu Bachar (BKSP) finished first, second, third , fourth and fifth position after scoring 684, 681, 681, 680 and 680 respectively.

In the compound women’s singles events, Roksana (Dhaka Army Archery Club), Susmita Bonik (Dhaka Army Archery Club), Tania Rima (Dhaka Army Archery Club), Bonna Akter (Bangladesh Ansar) and Suma Biswas (Bangladesh Ansar) finished first, second, third, fourth and fifth position after scoring 690, 671, 666, 665, and 662 respectively.

In the compound men’s team events, Javed Alam, Mithu Rahman and Sohel Rana of Dhaka Army Archery Club, emerged top scoring 2027, Asim Kumar Das, Asikuzzaman and Banrum Bom of Bangladesh Police Archery Club placed at second position scoring 2021 while Abdullah Al Shoyeb, Himu Bachar and Asif Mahmud of BKPS finished third position scoring 1999 among the eight teams.

In the compound women’s team event, Roksona Akter, Susmita Bonik and Tania Rima of Dhaka Army Archery Club, emerged top scoring 2027 and Suma Biswas, Bonna Akter and Mosammat Lamia Islam of Bangladesh Ansar placed at second position scoring 1966 while Ritu Akter, Sheuli Akter, Mosammat Humayra Khatun of Bangladesh Police Archery Club finished third position after scoring 1940 among the five teams.

In the compound mixed team event, Mithu Rahman and Roksana Akter (Dhaka Army Archery Club), Ayshorjo Rahman and Bonna Aklter (Bangladesh Ansar) and Asim Kumar Das and Mosammat Humayra Khatun (Bangladesh Police) finished first, second and third position after scoring 1371, 1345 and 1338 respectively.

Approximately 150 archers from 40 teams are taking part meet sponsored by City Group. The competitions feature ten events, five each in recurve and compound.
