2 individuals, one organization to get Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation

DHAKA, Feb 28, 2021 (BSS) – Two individuals and one organization have been nominated for the “Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation-2020” in three categories to promote organizations and individuals dealing in conserving nature and wildlife.

The Wildlife Advisory Board gave the final nominations to the individuals and organization at a meeting at the secretariat here today with Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin in the chair, said a press release.

Deputy Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Begum Habibun Nahar, Secretary of the Ministry Ziaul Hasan, Additional Secretary (development) Ahmed Shamim Al Razi, Additional Secretary (climate change) Md Mizanul Hoque Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (environment) Md Moniruzzaman, Director General of the Department of Environment AKM Rafique Ahammed, Chief Conservator of Forests Md Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Chairman of Nature and Life Foundation Mukit Majumder Babu and IUCN Country Representative Rakibul Amin along with representatives from different ministries and other members of the committee attended the meeting.

According to the release, retired chief conservator of forest and former Country Representative of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Bangladesh Ishtiaq Uddin Ahmad has been nominated in the forest and wildlife conservation officer, renowned researcher, scientist, wildlife conservationist and media personnel or personality category.

Dr Mohammad Firoj Jaman, Professor of Zoology Department of Dhaka University, has been nominated in the Wildlife Education and Research category while the Ashurhat Bird Conservation Society in Nityanandapur Union of Shailkupa Upazila under Jhenaidah district has been nominated in organization dedicated to wildlife conservation category.

The award will be handed over to the recipients at the inaugural function of a tree fair at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in June marking the World Environment Day.

Each of the awardees will get cash Taka equivalent to the value of two bhori (23.32 grams) of gold and Taka 50,000 by an account pay e-cheque as well as a certificate.
