Metro rail’s operations to start in next victory day: Mannan

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2021 (BSS) – Planning Minister MA Mannan today expressed his
optimism that the operations of the country’s maiden metro rail from Uttara
to Agargaon in the city would begin from the next victory day.

The minister said this after visiting the physical progress of the metro
rail project at Diabari depot in the capital’s Uttara.

The length of the metro rail, from Uttara to Agargaon having nine stations,
is 11.73 kilometer of which viaduct is visible on 11.4 kilometer route, he
said, adding “Hopefully, metro rail will start operations on this route in
the next victory day.”

Mannan said the government is hopeful to launch the operations of metro
rail in this year to celebrate the golden jubilee of the country’s
independence. “Although there was an impact on the project works due to
COVID-19, but work is now going on day and night,” he added.

The minister also informed that a committee is working to fix the fares of
the metro rail.

Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited MAN Siddique said
the trial run of metro rail would begin on April 23.

“In many countries this trial run ranges from three months to one year.
After the trial run, it will be possible to say when the commercial
operations could be launched. Hopefully we’ll be able to say about this in
July,” he added.
