Bumper Mustard production expected in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH. Feb 15, 2021 (BSS) – Farmers of the district are expecting a bumper
mustard production in the current season as favorable weather condition is prevailing in
Panchagarh.

Due to good yield of the winter crop and its fair price during the last several years,
farmers of all five upazilas of the district are spreading the areas of mustard cultivation.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) department sources said around 2775
hectares of land have been brought under mustard cultivation this year with the
production target 3,635 metric tonnes of mustard seed.

The DAE has given fertilizers, pesticide and other agri-inputs to the farmers free of cost
for boosting production of Mustard. It has also given training on using modern
technology to the farmers for Mustard cultivation to make the programme a success.

Farmer Rasidul of Debiganj upazila said, “I have cultivated high yield Bari-14 variety
mustard on five bighas of land spending Taka 27,000 aiming to become financially self-
reliant. I am expecting over 40 maunds of output from the crop land.”

A good numbers of farmers are now engaged in mustard cultivation commercially across
the area this season.

Deputy Director of DAE Mizanur Rahman said five varieties of mustard— BARI-9, BINA-5,
BINA-8, BARI-15, BARI-14 —are being cultivated in the district during the current
season.
