DHAKA, Feb 14, 2021 (BSS) – The February 15 is the ‘Black Day’ of the history of the country’s democracy as BNP held at a voter-less and farce national election in the country on February 15 in 1996.

Awami League and its associate bodies have taken various programmes on the day protesting the voter-less election.

Dhaka North City Unit of Awami League will hold a rally on Russel Square, Dhanmondi, in the capital at 10 am tomorrow.

AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will speak at the rally as the chief quest. AL Dhaka North City president Sheikh Bazlur Rahman will preside over the meeting.

Dhaka South City Unit of AL will arrange a rally on the premises of AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue Centre Office at 2 pm tomorrow.

AL advisory council member Begum Matia Chowdhury will be present at the meeting as the chief guest with AL Dhaka South City president and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Abu Ahmed Mannafi in the chair.

On February 15 in 1996, the then BNP government held an election of farce, putting the country’s electoral system and democracy in dark.

Awami League rejected the election and conducted an indefinite non-cooperation movement until demands for a new and free election was met.
