It is ludicrous when champions in corruption tells about grafts: Hasan

DHAKA, Jan 30, 2021 (BSS) – Sharply criticizing BNP’s comments on
corruption issue, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said it
is ludicrous to hear against corruption from those who already became
champions in corruption.

“The country became champions five times in a row in corruption
during the regime of BNP. It is really ludicrous to hear against
corruption from those (BNP) who became champions in corruption during
their regime,” he told reporters after attending the 14th
International Children Film Festival at the Shwakat Osman Auditorium
at Central Public Library in the capital.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs SM Khalid was present there.

Criticising a comment of BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on the verdict
of Laxmipur-2 constituency lawmaker Shahid Islam Paplu at a court in
Kuwait, Hasan said Paplu is an independent lawmaker and Awami League
is never responsible for his corruption.

He, also Awami League joint general secretary, said Paplu was
convicted in a court in Kuwait and the Anti Corruption Commission of
Bangladesh is also investigating this issue.

Earlier, in the inaugural speech of the film festival, the
information minister lauded for taking such initiatives and said such
festival is most helpful in creating affection to the country’s
culture and heritage and to create patriotism. The festival will also
helpful in building a developed nation, said Hasan.

Replying to a query, the minister said a special fund of Taka one
crore will be formed for the development of the film sector. The
government has plans to open up closed cinema halls, renovate the old
ones and introduce new movie theatres for the movie lovers through the
easy loan,” he added.

Khalid said the children’s film festival is being organized under
the direction of children and teenagers, which is a great pleasure and
testament to their creativity.

Describing his Corona vaccination experience, the state minister
said there was no adverse reaction in his body after the vaccination.

Earlier, Dr Hasan Mahmud, SM Khalid and festival director Fariha
Jannat Mim hoisted national flag, flag of the central festival and
flag of the running festival respectively.

They also released pigeons, the symbol of peace, and light candles.

About 1500 films of 81 countries will be screened at three
venues-Public Library, National Museum and Shilpakala Academy. The
festival is open to all.
