“A total of 1, 61,807 students out of 13, 67,377 examinees in HSC and its equivalent examinations achieved GPA-5. All of 13,67,377 examinees have passed in the examinations, ” Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni told a press conference on HSC and equivalent results at International Mother Language Institute here.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled the results through videoconferencing from her official residence Ganabhaban in the capital this morning.

Earlier, Chairmen of 11 education boards – nine general boards, one madrasha education board and one technical education board – handed over their results.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni received the results.

Examinees can get the results from the education board website Education Board Bangladesh and also from the websites of their respective education boards.

The Minister said considering the pandemic situation, the result of HSC exam was published through ‘Subject Mapping’ and evaluating process on the basis of the marks obtained in JSC and SSC in main subjects except 4th subject. “After postponing the HSC and equivalent exams on March 22, 2020, we hoped to hold the examinations with a changed routine but we could not hold the exams due to COVID-19 pandemic,” Dipu Moni added.

The minister said the government passed three amended bills in National Parliament to publish the results of HSC and equivalent examinations without examinations on January 24.

“We made every single step from the very beginning to publishing the results, based on the recommendations of the advisory council, formed consisting of eight educationists,” she said.

Dipu Moni said the government is determined to turn the country into ‘Digital Bangladesh’ and the result today is being published using the latest and advanced technology.

A total of 1, 61,807 students have achieved GPA-5 (grade point average) in Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations-2020.

According to the results published here today, 83,338 female students achieved maximum grade point GPA-5 in the examinations while 78,469 male students secured GPA-5.

Dhaka Board secured top position among all the 11 boards in terms of getting maximum grade points with 57,926 GPA-5 out of 3,26,041. Of them, 29,281 are male students and 28, 645 are female.

Rajshahi Board secured the second position with 26,568 GPA-5, while Dinajpur Board was ranked in third position with 14,871 GPA-5.

The number of GPA-5 holders in Jashore Board is 12,892 while 10,040 students secured GPA-5 in Mymensingh Board, 9,364 students in Cumilla Board, 5,568 students in Barishal Board and 4,242 students in Sylhet Board.

Apart from nine general education boards, Madrasah Board secured 4,048 GPA-5 while some 4145 students got GPA-5 in Technical Education Board.

A total of 396 students, who secured GPA-5 in Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC), could not obtain the maximum grade point GPA-5 in Higher Secondary Certificate due to ‘Subject Mapping’.

As no exam was held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the results of HSC exam was prepared through the ‘Subject Mapping’ process, an evaluating process on the basis of the marks of JSC and SSC exams. Except fourth subjects, results were prepared calculating marks of main subjects in both JSC and SSC examinations.

Consequently, the students who secured GPA-5 in previous exams with the support of 4th subject did not make it this time as the results were published after coordinating 75 percent marks from SSC/equivalent examinations and 25 percent marks from JSC/JDC examinations in main subjects.

“The number for Bangla, English and ICT was determined by coordinating 75 percent from SSC/equivalent examination and 25 percent from JSC/JDC results in the three basic subjects”, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni told a press conference on HSC and equivalent results at International Mother Language Institute here.

For the science group, the number for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Higher Math was determined by coordinating 75 percent from SSC and 25 percent from JSC/JDC results in those subjects, she added.

Overall evaluation process was done on the basis of numbers obtained in main subjects in previous two exams coordinating the number of SSC/ equivalent and JSC/JDC bringing bad luck for the students who got GPA-5 in the previous exams with very close numbers or with the support of 4th subject.

As many as 215 students of eight overseas centres came out successful in the HSC examinations-2020 with 100 percent pass rate.

According to the results published here today, 62 overseas students got GPA-5 while the number of GPA-5 achievers is 25 in 2019.
