7 ex-Oriental Bank officials get 5 yrs jail
DHAKA, Jan 28, 2021 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sentenced seven former officials including ex-deputy managing director (DMD) of now defunct Oriental Bank to five years imprisonment for misappropriating Taka 1.61 crore and fined them Taka 10,000 each.
Judge Shahidul Islam of the Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-7 pronounced the verdict in a case filed over embezzlement of Taka 1.61 crore.
The convicts are former DMD of Oriental Bank Imamul Haque, former senior vice-president Shah Mohammad Harun, former senior assistant vice-president Abul Kashem Mahmudullah, former assistant vice-president Fazlur Rahman, former executive officer Tarikul Alam, former senior executive vice-president Mahmud Hossain and former executive vice-president Qamrul Islam.
Imamul Haque was produced before the court before the pronouncement of the verdict but six other convicts remain fugitive.
Oriental Bank was renamed as ICB Islamic Bank in 2009.
Anti-Corruption Commission’s former assistant director Jahangir Alam filed the case as plaintiff with Motijheel police station on October 28, 2015 while charge sheet was submitted against them on December 29, 2016.
