Lands of 13 canals to be recovered soon: Atiqul
DHAKA, Jan 20, 2021 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC)
Mayor Md Atiqul Islam today said there are 13 canals in the extended
wards of DNCC and lands of these 29 kilometer (km) long canals will be
recovered soon from the encroachers.
“Under a project worth Taka 4,025 crore, 29 km of 13 canals will be
recovered, re-excavated and made green and modern where facilities
like embankments, cycle lanes and walkways will be available,” he
said.
He told reporters at Namapara after inspecting Sutivhola canal and
Kadda canal in Bhatara, Satarkul and Badda areas in the capital.
About eviction of illegal installations from the canal, the mayor
said, “Illegal installations will be evicted according to the spots
where more canal space will be found in Central Settlement (CS), RS
(Revisional Settlement), City Survey.”
“Because the bigger the canal, the easier the water will flow out of
the area,” he said, adding that if it rains a little in the streets of
this area, the waist goes under water.
He also instructed all the authorities concerned to clean all the
drains and make these drains bigger under the project.
He also informed that no more houses will be built in these areas.
