Rajshahi division records 45 more COVID-19 cases

RAJSHAHI, Jan 20, 2021 (BSS) – Rajshahi division recorded 45 more new COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours till Tuesday evening, raising its number to 25,039.

However, the new daily infection figure is one of the highest ones compared to the previous couple of weeks, said the health department sources.

Of the infected patients, 23,147 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 31 new recoveries found during the time, they said.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 383 including 239 in Bogura and 54 in Rajshahi with no fatality reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 18 cases were detected in Bogura followed by nine in Naogaon, seven each in Rajshahi city and Sirajgonj, three in Joypurhat and one in Pabna.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 5,921 in Rajshahi including 4,436 in its city, 819 in Chapainawabganj, 1,590 in Naogaon, 1,222 in Natore, 1,348 in Joypurhat, 9,786 in Bogura, 2,702 in Sirajganj and 1,651 in Pabna.

A number of 2,920 identified patients were undergoing treatment at designated hospitals in the division till this morning as 6,397 other suspected patients remained in isolation units and 5,629 have, by now, been released.

On the other hand, 35 more persons have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 60 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

A total of 65,083 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 63,809 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.

Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on a 14-day lockdown as per the health safety guidelines.

Dr Talukder said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain at home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.
