DHAKA, Jan 14, 2021 (BSS)- A late goal Haitian forward Kervens Belfort helped Dhaka Abahani Limited secure a hard-fought solitary goal victory over Bangladesh Police Football Club in their opening match of the Bangladesh Premier League Football held today at Bangabandhu National Stadium here.

The match was locked goalless at the breather.

The sky blue Dhanmondi outfit, which was eliminated from the semifinal stage of the recently concluded Federation Cup, tried heart and soul to take the lead creating some early scoring chances but they could not convert any of those into a goal.

At one stage, it seemed that the match was going to end in a tame draw but Haitian striker Kervens Belfort rescued Abahani scoring the all-important goal in the 85th minute of the match.

Abahani didn’t play well in the recent times because they played three Federation Cups, one league and Independence Cup in the last three season but won only one trophy.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra will take on Brothers Union Club in the tomorrow’s lone encounter to be held at the same venue at 8 pm.
