Bangabandhu 44th Nat’l Athletics competition begins tomorrow

DHAKA, Jan 14, 2021 (BSS)- Bangabandhu 44th National Athletics competition will begin tomorrow (Friday) at Bangabandhu National Stadium here.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP, is expected to inaugurate the three-day meet as the chief guest on Saturday (January 16) at 2.30pm  while Youth and Sports Ministry’s additional Secretary(Sports) Mohammad Abdul Karim will be present as the special guest.

Nearly 450 men and women athletes from 64 districts, eight divisions, Universities, Educational Boards, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan, Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation and affiliated military and civil, and different institutions are going to take part in the meet, which will be held marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Organised by Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF), the competition will be held in thirty six events with men’s and women’s athletes split into two group. Among the thirty six events, twenty two of men’s and fourteen of women’s events.

The first, second and third place finishers from the thirty six events will get Taka 3,000, Taka 2,000 and Taka 1,000 respectively as prize money while the record holder will get Taka 5,000.

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh is expected to be present in the prize distribution ceremony of the competition as the chief guest on Sunday (January 17) and distribute the prizes.

BAF president ASM Ali Kabir will preside over both the opening and closing ceremony of the meet.

In this regard, a press conference was held at the conference room of Bangabandhu National Stadium to provide all the details of the meet.

BAF vice president Tofazzal Hossain, BAF general secretary advocate Abdur Rokib Montu, BAF joint secretary Farid Khan Chowdhury and BAF treasurer Jamal Hossain, among others, were present in the press conference.
