Livestock ministry for stopping poultry import from India

DHAKA, Jan 14, 2021 (BSS) – Amid growing concern over possible
contamination of the bird flu in the country, the Fisheries and
Livestock Ministry (MoFL) has urged all concerned department of the
government to take immediate step to stop all types of poultry import
from the neighboring country, India.

The ministry on Tuesday issued separate letters to the Ministry of
Commerce, Ministry of Home and the Shipping Ministry for taking
necessary steps for suspending import of all poultry goods including
chicks, parent-stock, duck, chickens, birds and eggs through legal and
illegal ways, said an official release.

The ministry also made an urge to the Home Ministry to this end as
the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Coast Guard will take
necessary steps to check all sorts of poultry and poultry items import
from the border areas.

As part of the precautionary measures, the MoFL also asked the
Shipping Ministry to check import of poultry and poultry goods from
India through sea, river and land ports.
