BNP-Jamaat did nothing for drivers’ welfare: Hasan

DHAKA, Jan 11, 2021 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP killed over one hundred drivers setting them on fire and throwing patrol bombs at buses and trucks in the name of movement in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

“BNP never did anything for the welfare of drivers rather they (BNP) killed them through arson and petrol bomb attacks in the name of movement in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Even they (BNP) burnt drivers when they were sleeping inside buses and trucks,” he said.

The minister made the comments while addressing a memorial meeting on former personal driver of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and vice-president of Bangladesh Awami Motor Chalok League late Md Shahjahan Mollah.

Bangladesh Awami Motor Chalak League organised the meeting at the AL office in city’s Bangabandhu Avenue.

Shahjahan Mollah breathed his last on Friday at a hospital in the capital at the age of 60.

He said, “Our leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the vehicle owners not to let the drivers to drive vehicles over eight hours a day otherwise they may fall as well as face accident due to stress and lack of rest.

Mentioning that Shajahan Mollah died of Covid-19 as he went to hospital after one week of being infected by the virus, the minister urged all to go to hospital or visit a doctor if they feel any kind of symptoms of Coronavirus.

Recalling the memory of Shajahan Mollah, the information minister said he was very soft and cordial minded.

Shajahan was one of the drivers who used to drive PM’s car during the most critical time and he did his duties with bravery, he said, adding even during the grenade attacks on August 21, PM’s the then driver Matin took the car forward with a damaged wheel, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always loves and takes care of those who work for her. “And she (the Premier) looks them like her family members. Thus, people always remain ready to sacrifice their lives for her,” he added.

AL’s deputy office secretary Sayem Khan and AL central working committee member Abdul Awal Shamim and AL city north unit vice president Nurul Amin Ruhul, MP, among others, addressed the meeting with Awami Motor Chalak Driver League president Md Ali Hossain in the chair.
