5 members of smuggling group held with 40-kg ganja in city

DHAKA, Jan 10, 2021 (BSS)- Members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Organized Crime and Car Theft Prevention Team have arrested five members of a smuggling ring along with 40 kilograms(kg) of ganja during a special operation, led by Team Leader Mohammad Ariful Islam, from airport areas of the capital.

The operation was directed by DMP Detective Branch (Wari Division) Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Ahad, and was supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammad Jasim Uddin, said a DMP press release issued here today.

The arrested are : Md Matiur Rahman ,28, son of late Delwar Hossain, Md Arif Bepari ,30, son of Md Harun Bepari, Shiuli Begum Shilpi 40, wife of Md Kawchar Ali, Arifa ,25, daughter of Md Altaf and Sharmin ,30, wife of Dulal.

The arrested were nabbed from the airport areas and the law enforcers seized 40 kgs of ganja from their possession. Regular cases have been filed against the arrested with airport police station.

According to the preliminary interrogation, they collected cannabis or ganja from different places in Brahmanbaria and Cumilla and supplied those ganja to Dhaka and its surrounding districts.

During interrogation, the arrestees further said that they used trains, buses, covered vans and microbuses for transporting cannabis.
