Hasan terms era of govt ‘epoch of indomitable dev’

DHAKA, Jan 6, 2021 (BSS) – Terming the era of the incumbent government as the period of development and progress, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said livelihoods of all people across the country have also been uplifted with the development of all sectors during the last 12 years.

“During the era, vast development and progress have been taken place at all sectors along with uplift of livelihood of all people in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

The minister came up with the views while uncovering a photo album ‘Sachithra Bangabandhu’ at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat here.

Department of Films and Publications (DFP) published the album.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan, DFP director general SM Golam Kibria and senior editor of the album Md Kamruzzaman, among others, addressed the function.

Hasan said poverty has been reduced to a great extent and people are not seen wearing torn cloths or barefoot in Bangladesh.

“Twelve years ago, we told that we will build a hunger-free and poverty-free Bangladesh. Now, the country is almost self-sufficient in food and it turned into a middle-income country from least developed one under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added.

Comparing the progress of Bangladesh in different indexes with Pakistan and India, the information minister said Bangladesh has left behind Pakistan in all the indexes and neighboring India in some indexes.

“But, after the 50 years of independence, it is our failure that a big political party BNP is doing politics with another party, which didn’t want independence of the country. Thus, the anti-liberation forces have not been eradicated from the country and this is our failure,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

He said the said Bangladesh is one of the countries across the globe which achieved highest economic growth amid coronavirus pandemic in 2020 under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. And Bangladesh is the third country among only 22 countries which achieved positive economic growth during the period, he added.

The minister said the export of Bangladesh has been increased in last year while export of most of the countries has been decreased. The remittance has been increased 35 percent while the reserve of foreign currency has been increased 10 billion US dollars, he added.

“According to a report of Bloomberg, the position of Bangladesh in combating COVID-19 is the first among the sub-continent and 20th in the world,” he said.

He said the poverty rate is now less than 20 percent which was 41.5 percent in 2006. And the rate of extreme poverty is less than 10 percent from 24.23 percent and the life expectancy is now 73.2 years from 65 years which is more than India and Pakistan, he added.

About the album, the minister said many rare pictures have been put in the album and foreigners could know about Bangabandhu from pictures’ caption as the descriptions were written both in Bangla and English.

Thanking the DFP, the minister said the role of the department will be written in the history in golden letters for recording the March 7 speech of Bangabandhu.

Dr Murad urged all to remain in unison to build the ‘Sonar Bangla’ dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the dynamic leadership of Bangabandhu’s worthwhile daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
