Jute output, its diversified use should be enhanced: Home Minister

DHAKA, Jan 5, 2021 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today
said production of jute and diversified use of jute goods would have
to be enhanced for greater interest of the environment and economy of
the country as well.

“For survival of environment and economy of the country, we have to
enhance jute production,” he said joining online at a seminar titled
“strengthening of jute fiber for composite application” at Institution
of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) here.

The home minister said there is no alternative to jute for
protecting of the environment.

“The government has taken various initiatives to ensure diversified
use of jute”, he told the seminar organized by IEB’s textile
engineering department, adding that the initiatives will play a
pivotal role in the economy of the country.”

Bangabandhu Textile Engineering Association President Engineer M
Mojaffar Hossen, MP, Textile and Jute Secretary Lokman Hossen Mia, IEB
President Engineer M Nurul Huda, IEB Vice-president Engineer M
Nuruzzaman, ITET President Engineer M Shafiqur Rahman-and Textile
Engineering Department former Chairman Engineer SM Sirajul Islam also
spoke the seminar as the special guests.

IEB General Secretary Engineer M Shahadat Hossen Siblu gave the
welcome address while BUET Textile Department Assistant Professor Dr
Engineer Forkan Sarker presented the keynote paper at the function.

Noting that polythine and petroleum products are dangerous for
environment, the home minister said there is no option of
biodegradable jute. “Concentration has the given to increase the use
of jute products among the people. Once jute was called cash crop and
now it has been revived, he added,” he added.
