Eco-project shows replicable model of sustainable family health, nutrition in C’nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Jan 5, 2021 (BSS)- A non-government organisation (NGO) named ‘Society for People’s Action in Change and Equity (SPACE)’ has implemented a three-year project on ‘Ecological and Local Solution for Stunting Prevention among Poor Children’ at three villages in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.

The project, funded by AsharGan Onlus, Italy, implemented at the Amarak, Nadhai Krishnapur and Gokul villages under Gobratala union of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila.

This was disclosed in the project completion meeting yesterday evening organised by SPACE in cooperation with the Gobratala Union Parishad (UP) on the Delbari Government Primary School premises with Chairman of the UP Md. Aszadur Rahman in the chair.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Nazmul Islam Sarkar attended the meeting as the chief guest while Vice Chairman of the upazila parishad Nasrin Jamal was present as special guest.

Founder of SPACE Md Azahar Ali Pramanik, its Executive Director Md. Salah Uddin Bepari and former UP Chairman Md. Araful Islam Azizi also attended the meeting, among others.

SPACE has, so far, installed over 200 eco-toilets, 200 smokeless improved cooking stoves, 150 rainwater harvesting system, 400 units of waste management and 400 hand washing units among the extremely poor households with special emphasis on the Ethnic Minority Groups in the aforesaid three villages.

Besides, the SPACE supported in building 60 demonstration plots for chemical free organic Farming utilizing the treated and disinfected human excreta, which significantly contributed to the decreased use of chemical fertilizers that helped in reducing production costs.

All the targeted households use treated and disinfected human excreta in farm-field (in vegetable productions) and fruit trees (mango trees) for chemical free production and increased yields. Increasing demands found among increasing number of households for installing the eco-components, especially the eco-toilets.

the chief guest mentioned that SPACE has really demonstrated a replicable model of eco-project for sustainable family health and nutrition that everyone including the farmers could follow and practice in the farm field.

The speakers also requested the government and the local administration to include the project at the mainstreaming development of the national level.

After the discussion a cultural function was also held.
