Saif move quarterfinal as group champions in Federation Cup
DHAKA, Dec. 29, 2020 (BSS)- As expected Saif Sporting Club confirmed their spot of quarterfinal as the group B champions eliminating Arambagh Krira Sangha by a solitary goal held today at Bangabandhu National Stadium here.
With the day’s win, Saif SC maintained their all win records in the group phase matches with nine points from three matches while Arambagh, which made their exit from the tournament race with the day’s defeat, remained at their previous credit of three points playing the same number of outings.
Uttar Baridhara, which earlier beat Brothers Union Club in the day’s earlier match, finished group B runners-up ensuring their place of quarterfinal with six points also from three matches.
Saif Sporting Club will play against group D runners-up in the second quarterfinal match scheduled to be held on January 2 while group B runners-up Baridhara face group D champions in the fourth quarterfinal to be held on January 4.
After the barren first half, Arifur Rahman scored the all-important goal for Saif in the 57th minute of the match and Saif SC maintained their lead till the final whistle.
Earlier, in the group phase matches, Saif Sporting Club beat Uttar Baridhara by 3-0 goals in their opening group match and dumped Brothers Union Club by 6-1 goals in their second group match.
On the other hand, Arambagh Krira Sangha made a winning start in the tournament as they blanked Brothers Union Club by 2-0 goals but they lost to Baridhara by 2-3 goals in their second group match.
Wednesday’s matches: Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra vs Abahani Limited (3.15 pm) and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club vs Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra (5.45 pm).
