Lowest COVID-19 infection rate recorded in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 26, 2020 (BSS) – The lowest ever daily coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate of about 3.85 percent was recorded on Friday in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues declining since the past couple of weeks.

Health officials said only five people were reported COVID-19 positive after testing a total of 130 collected samples of the division at the daily infection rate of around 3.85 percent on Friday.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 10.10 percent each on Thursday and Wednesday, 9.83 percent on Tuesday, 11.37 percent on Monday and 13.30 percent on Sunday last raising the total number of infected patients to 15,255 in the division today.

The district-wise break up of the total 15,255 patients stands at 3,905 in Rangpur, 761 in Panchagarh, 1,302 in Nilphamari, 953 in Lalmonirhat, 994 in Kurigram, 1,470 in Thakurgaon, 4,444 in Dinajpur and 1,426 in Gaibandha districts.

Since the beginning, a total of 94,342 collected samples were tested in the division till Wednesday, and of them, 15,255 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 16.17 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured COVID-19 patients rose to 14,045 with the recovery of 12 more infected people in the division on Friday at the average recovery rate of about 92.07 percent.

“The average COVID-19 infection rate of 16.17 percent is currently 5.69 times less that the recovery rate of 91.81 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 14,045 recovered patients include 3,358 of Rangpur, 726 of Panchagarh, 1,253 of Nilphamari, 921 of Lalmonirhat, 928 of Kurigram, 1,340 of Thakurgaon, 4,152 of Dinajpur and 1,367 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 288 in the division with one more death reported from Dinajpur on Friday.

“The district-wise break up of the 288 fatalities stands at 67 in Rangpur, 102 in Dinajpur, 31 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 15 in Gaibandha, 20 in Panchagarh and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at around 1.89 percent in the division.

Among the total 15,255 COVID-19 infected patients, 49 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 14,045 patients and 288 deaths while 873 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 92,746 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 88,087 released and 4,659 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said Rangpur division is witnessing a declining trend in the COVID-19 infection rate in recent weeks.

He suggested everyone to sincerely wear masks while remaining outside along with abiding by the other health directives to remain safe and keep others safe from the infection of the deadly virus in the future.
