Mannujan inaugurates cash assistance programme for destitute workers

DHAKA, Dec 22, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Labour and Employment
Begum Mannujan Sufian today inaugurated a programme taken to provide
cash assistance to the destitute workers in the export-oriented
garment, leather goods and footwear industries due to the outbreak of
coronavirus pandemic.

The state minister attended the event as the chief guest at the
conference room of Shram Bhaban at Bijaynagar area in the city.

Mannujan Sufian said the government took the initiative to launch
the social safety net programme in a bid to provide emergency
humanitarian assistance to the destitute workers in the garment and
leather and footwear industries due to COVID-19 pademic.

The development partners such as European Union and German federal
government related to the programme agreed to finance.

Remembering Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,
the state minister said Bangabandhu had worked tirelessly for the
welfare of the working people of the country.

Following in the footsteps of the Father of the Nation, his worthy
daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is are working relentlessly for
the welfare of the working people of the country, she continued.

She added that the present government is sincerely maintaining good
relations between employers and workers and implementing various
programmes to ensure safe working environment and social security.

She said earlier the premier announced 31 points in the first
outbreak of coronavirus for the betterment of the workers.

Ready-made garment factory owners announced economic recovery
packages before seeking co-operation and provided cash for the payment
of wages to the workers, she said.
