Imran for concerted efforts to develop immigration sector

DHAKA, Dec 20, 2020 (BSS) – Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed, MP, today urged all government and non-government organisations to work together to overcome the COVID-19 situation and develop the immigration sector in Bangladesh.

“COVID-19 pandemic is an unexpected situation across the globe and that is why every sector has been affected. Recruiting agencies, including government and non-government organizations, various development agencies, and international organizations, need to work together under one umbrella to address the ongoing crisis in the immigration sector. Only then we can effectively tackle the pandemic and bring the desired development in the sector,” he said.

He made the call as the chief guest at a consultation meeting of national level stakeholders in the immigration sector titled ‘‘National Level Stakeholder Consultation on Safe Migration and Sustainable Reintegration in the Context of the COVID-19 Crisis’ organized by the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET)and NGO based organisation BRAC at a city hotel here.

About the sincerity of the present government for migrant workers, he said the government has taken various steps in favor of expatriate workers amid coronavirus pandemic.

Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh Nathalie Chuard, Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) President Benazir Ahmed and BRAC Executive Director Asif Saleh attended the programme, among others.

Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr Ahmed Munirus Salehin presided over it.

BMET Director General Md Shamsul Alam gave the welcome speech on the occasion.
