Essence of all religions is to establish harmony: Dr Hasan

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 18, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League Joint General Secretary and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said the essence of all religions is to establish friendship and harmony through human service and welfare of mankind.

“If everyone grasps this essence of religion, there will be no more violence, strife and unrest in the world,” he added.

Mentioning that Bangladesh has set an example in the world in terms of communal harmony, Dr Hasan said, “Coexistence and communal relations of Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Bengalis, Mugs, Chakmas and people of all religions in the country are rare in the world.”

He was virtually speaking as the chief guest at the funeral of the late Bimaljyoti Mahasthabir, president of Rangunia Sangharaj Bhikkhu Samity, Rangunia Upazila Buddhist Samity in Chattogram and Principal of the central Syedbari Dharmachakra Bihar this afternoon.

Sangharaj Gyanshree Mahasthavir presided over the function on the last day of the two-day program while Rangunia Upazila Chairman Swajan Kumar Talukder inaugurated it.

Upasangharaj Dharmapriya Mahasthavir of Bangladesh Sangharaja Bhikku Mahasabha, Professor Biman Chandra Barua of Dhaka University, Mayor of Rangunia Municipality Md. Shahjahan Sikder, Chattogram Jilla Parisad Member Kamrul Islam Chowdhury, Sukhbilas Fisheries and Plantation Chairman Ershad Mahmud, Dharmasen Mahasthabir, Monilal Talukder, and Prosenjit Talukder, among others, addressed the function as special guests.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that a non-communal state Bangladesh was formed under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after coming from the communal state Pakistan.

“Communal poisoning sometimes tries to make an impact on our country. But our secularism has always suppressed this evil force. Still a communal group tries to degrade our country and our society,” he added.

Dr Hasan said, “Our non-communal harmony and collective strength will defeat the communal forces in the present as well as in the future.”

“Our first identity is that we are Bengalis. This Bangladesh has been created in exchange of the combined bloodshed of people of all religions. The place of communal evil cannot be in Bangladesh,” he added.

The Information Minister said, “Bimal Jyoti Mahasthavir was a monk of Buddhism. But he was a favorite of Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians of all faiths. He has been able to establish himself as a man of love and respect for all people with his kindness, compassion and love.”
