Cent percent people in flood affected districts get cash support: CPD

DHAKA, Dec 13, 2020 (BSS) – Around 80.6 percent people of the flood affected districts in this year got GR rice as food assistance while cent percent people of those flood affected districts received cash support, said a research of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD).

The research findings were revealed at a virtual dialogue titled “Relief Programme to face COVID-19, Flood and Agriculture Stimulus: Effectiveness of Government Services” held today organized jointly by the CPD, Oxfam in Bangladesh and European Union (EU).

During the virtual dialogue, an initial evaluation report was highlighted featuring the relief programme to face COVID-19, Flood in the haor region including in Netrakona and the effectives of government services towards distributing agriculture stimulus.

Senior Research Associate of CPD Mostafa Amir Sabbih presented the key-note paper at the dialogue. The research findings, analyzing the data of Netrakona district, showed that 46 percent of the total land while 59 percent of the villages under Netrakona district became inundated from July 12 to July 27 this year.

During that flood, rice, child food, and animal food were distributed among the affected people while Taka 2,500 was given as cash support to each of the affected families.

The CPD, the civil society think tank, also said that the selection of the beneficiaries and the formulation of the beneficiary lists in the district and upazila level were done in a fair manner.

Quoting the data from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, the research said that a total of 160 upazilas were affected in that flood with the number of water logged families reaching 7,92,748.

Chaired by CPD distinguished fellow Dr Mostafizur Rahman, Waresat Hossain Belal MP, CPD executive director Dr Fahmida Khatun and Deputy Commissioner of Netrakona Kazi M Abdur Rahman spoke, among others, at the virtual dialogue.
