Bangladesh close to victory: occupation forces squeezed

DHAKA, Dec 13, 2020 (BSS) – December 14, 1971 is a tragic day in the
history of Bangalee nation.

On this day, just before 48 hours of achieving final victory, country’s
intellectuals including academics, teachers, journalists, doctors, engineers
and other professionals were brutally killed with a view to making the nation
intellectually bankrupt.

The intellectuals were blindfolded and dragged out from their houses
including the Dhaka University campus in front of their family members,
neighbours and colleagues and they never returned.

‘Al Badar’, the local agents of the Pakistani occupation forces, led by
Major General Rao Farman Ali prepared the list of the intellectuals and
carried out the killing.

The bodies of the intellectuals were recovered from Rayer Bazar after
December 16, which included Prof JC Dev, Prof Mofazzal Haider Chowdhury, Prof
Munir Chowdhury, Prof Gias Uddin, Prof Muniruzzaman, Prof Anwar Pasha,
Santhosh Bhattacharya, litterateur Shahidullah Kaiser, journalist Sirajuddin
Hossain, ANM Mostafa Kamal, Nazmul Haque Latu Bhai, Abul Khair Rashidul
Hasan, Dr Alim Chowdhury, Dr Fazle Rabbi, Dr Azad, Abul Bashar Chowdhury and
others.

On this day the freedom fighters led by the allied forces gheraoed the
capital city Dhaka. All divisions of the occupation forces were disconnected
from the central command.

The occupation forces became bewildered getting the news of defeat from
each and every war front.

On December 14, when the occupation forces were killing the intellectuals,
then the allied forces reached at the west bank of the river Turag.

At night, the freedom fighters of sector no. 3 reached at Basabo and the
second East Bengal regiment ambushed at Demra.

The allied forces were informed that the leaders of Pakistan and military
officials would hold a meeting at the Governor House to review the latest
situation of the war.

The allied forces bombed on the Governor House and finding no other way
the East Pakistan cabinet resigned.

In Chattogram, Indian Navy intensified their ground attack and air attack,
and destroyed resistance power of the Pakistani forces.

The victory flag of Bangladesh were hoisted in different parts of the
country, which were freed from the hands of enemy.

It included different parts of the districts of Gazipur, Munshiganj,
Narayanganj, Bogura, Sirajganj, Joypurhat, Jashore, Rangpur, Chattogram,
Brahmanbaria and Kishoreganj.

President Yahia Khan had sent a wireless message to Lt General Niazi and
Governor Dr Malik to stop war which finally destroyed the will force of the
occupation forces.
