58 more test positive tests coronavirus in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Dec 9, 2020 (BSS) – Fifty-eight more people were tested positive today for coronavirus (COVID-19) at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues showing a moderately steady trend in recent days.

Health officials said the 58 new infected cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples collected from all eight districts of the division at the daily infection rate of over 15.42 percent today.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 15.69 percent on Tuesday, 12.23 percent on Monday, 16.32 percent on Sunday, 15.34 percent on Saturday, 17.37 percent on Friday and 15.42 on Thursday in the division.

Among the 58 new patients diagnosed today, 31 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 31 patients include 23 of Rangpur, two of Gaibandha, one each of Kurigram, Dinajpur and Thakurgaon and three of Lalmonirhat,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 27 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 27 new COVID-19 patients include 23 of Dinajpur and four of Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:50 pm.

Talking to BSS tonight, Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 14,659 as 58 new positive cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the 14,659 patients stands at 3,741 in Rangpur, 748 in Panchagarh, 1,262 in Nilphamari, 940 in Lalmonirhat, 982 in Kurigram, 1,422 in Thakurgaon, 4,187 in Dinajpur and 1,377 in Gaibandha districts of the division,” he said.
