Victory Day programmes in Khulna

KHULNA, Dec 7, 2020 (BSS) – The district administration has taken limited scale programmes to celebrate the 50th Victory Day on December 16 next in a befitting manner amid coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The programmes were drawn up at a preparatory meeting held in the conference room of the deputy commissioner here on November 26.

With Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Helal Hossain in the chair, the meeting was attended by the heads of various government, semi-government and autonomous bodies as well as the cross section of the people.

The programmes of the day will begin with 31-gun salute to be held at Metropolitan Police Lines at Boyra in the city.

The programmes include hoisting of the national flag atop all public and private buildings, placing wreaths at the Gallamari martyred memorial in the city, virtual discussion meeting, essay competition through online, holding special prayers at all mosques, temples and churches and serving improved diet in the hospitals, jail and orphanage centres.

Khulna Shishu Academy will arrange art and paint competitions for the children on the occasion while quiz competition for primary and secondary students on culture, liberation war and independence will be held virtually as educational institutions were shut down due to coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

At the outset of the meeting, the DC paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, while a minute’s silence was observed in memory of the great leader and the 1971 martyrs.
