Govt monitoring Kushtia incident: LGRD Minister

DHAKA, Dec 6, 2020 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister M Tajul Islam said the government is monitoring the demolition of Bangabandhu’s sculpture in Kushtia and stern action would be taken against the culprits.

“The incident was very sad…By breaking the sculpture of Bangabandhu, we are not only disrespecting him, but we are also belittling ourselves as a nation, the government is monitoring the Kushtia incident very closely and action will be taken against those involved,” the minister said.

He was responding to a question from reporters after a courtesy call on Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mustafa Osman Turan at his ministry this morning, said a press release.

“If Bangabandhu had survived, the country would have become a hunger-free, poverty-free and developed-prosperous country in 2000,” he said adding, “We are dreaming to build ‘Sonar Bangla’, as dreamt by Bangabandhu under the dynamic leadership of his daughter Sheikh Hasina and it is very sad if we cannot protect his honor.”

During the meeting, they discussed various issues including infrastructure and communication system, waste management, drainage, culture and rural development.

Describing Turkey as a very friendly country of Bangladesh, the minister said that the relationship between the two countries will be stronger in the future.
