Three envoys present credentials to President

DHAKA, Dec 03, 2020 (BSS) – Envoys of three countries to Bangladeshseparatelypresented their credentials to President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here today.

The resident envoys are: Ambassador of Egypt HaythamGhobashy, High Commissioners of Malaysia and Sri Lanka respectively Haznahbinti Md. Hashim and SudharshanDeepal Suresh.

Welcoming the envoys, the President said Bangladesh is keen to develop relations with all the countries, including neighbouring ones, President’s press secretary Md JoynalAbedin told BSS.

The president hoped that the new envoys would take the existing bilateral relations with Bangladesh to a new height during their respective tenures.

In the current context, President Hamid said apart from the existing diplomatic relations, the expansion of bilateral and multilateral trade and investment ties is very important among the countries.

He said Bangladesh produces various world class products including readymade garments, medicines, ceramics, jute and jute products.

Abdul Hamid called upon Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Egypt to increase the import of these products from Bangladesh and increase investment in various sectors, including energy, communication and infrastructure in Bangladesh.

President Hamid inquired about the Corona situation in their respective countries in the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Noting that the world is in dire consequence due to corona, the President said all the countries, including the United Nations (UN) and other international organizations, should take initiatives so that all countries in the world can easily get the COVID-19 vaccine.

At the same time, the President called upon all countries of the world to take a concerted action against the lethal disease.

During the meetings, the envoys sought the President’s cooperation in discharging their duties in Bangladesh.

The head of the state assured the envoys of providing necessary cooperation in performing their (envoys) assignments in Bangladesh.

President’s Office Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Shamim-Uz-Zaman, Press Secretary Md JoynalAbedin, Secretary (attachment) Md Wahidul Islam Khan were present on the occasion.

Earlier, on their arrival at Bangabhaban, a smartly turned-out contingent of the horse-mounted President Guard Regiment (PGR) gave the envoys guards of honour.
