19 public, science and tech univ to hold ‘combined’ admission tests

DHAKA, Dec 1, 2020 (BSS) – The entrance tests for 2020-2021 academic sessions in 19 public, science and technology universities will be held under uniform procedure in three units- humanities, business and science.

The students will have to sit for a single admission test and the questions will be prepared based on the curriculum of Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC).

The decision was made today at a meeting with vice-chancellors of the universities, said a press release of University Grants Commission (UGC).

On February 26, a decision was made in principle to conduct admission tests in three groups in public universities, read the release.

The decision was finally approved at a meeting today between UGC and the vice chancellors of 19 public, science and technology universities, with UGC Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah in the chair.

UGC members Prof Dr Md Sajjad Hossain, Prof Dr Muhammad Alamgir, Prof Dr Biswajit Chand and Prof Dr Md Abu Taher were also present in the meeting.

The joint convener of the general, science and technology universities and the vice-chancellor of Jagannath University, Prof Mizanur Rahman said the central admission test committee comprising the vice-chancellors will decide on the admission test procedure for this group and It will give students scores after tests.

“The universities of this group will publish advertisements in newspapers regarding admission of students mentioning their respective conditions and demands. Universities will admit students after getting scores. Therefore, no separate admission test will be held”, he added.

UGC Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah said there was no chance for the universities to withdraw from admission tests in a cluster system due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He urged the vice-chancellors to prepare for holding the tests in a direct and easy way considering the situation of students and parents.

Last year, admission tests were held in a batch system in seven agriculture universities.

The 19 universities are: Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Islamic University, Khulna University, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Jagannath University, Comilla University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Pabna University of Science and Technology, Begum Rokeya University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, University of Barishal, Rangamati Science and Technology University, Rabindra University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Sheikh Hasina University and Bangamata Sheikh Fojilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University.
