IT sector needs leading in 4th industrial revolution: Jabbar

DHAKA, Nov 28, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh’s IT sector needs to lead in the Fourth Industrial Revolution by turning its vast human resources into efficient workforces.

Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Mustafa Jabbar today said this while speaking as the chief guest at the online launching program of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) website and mobile app on digital platform in Dhaka , said a press release.

“4th Industrial Revolution is not the same for everyone. What developed countries think about using their technology to fill their human reserves may not be applicable for us. We have to utilize our huge human resources appropriately,” he said.

He called upon the digital industry-related trade bodies to come forward and adopt a sustainable action plan for the development and application of the fourth industry-related technology. “We need to utilize our human resources to use the digital technology of the fourth industrial revolution.”

Emphasizing the need for other trade bodies in the digital technology sector to create similar web sites, the minister referred to the modern version of BASIS as a very effective initiative for those involved in website and mobile app technology, said the release.

Jabbar said that, “Japan, China and South Korea have been able to contain the spread of Coronavirus through artificial intelligence, robotics, IOT or Big Data analysis. We need to develop ourselves and make proper use of technology.”

He also said that now it is time to create a digital technology policy as earlier a policy for ICT was made.

“As a result of the dynamic leadership and visionary program of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has set an example to the world in the digital revolution as well as qualified to lead in the fourth industrial revolution,” Jabbar said. He called upon the technology-related trade bodies, including BASIS, to work in unison to accelerate the country’s progress.

BASIS leaders SM Kamal, Habibullah Karim, Sarwar Alam and Farhana Rahman, BCS President Shahid Munir and Bangladesh Association of Call Center and Outsourcing (BACCO) President Waheed Sharif addressed the function conducted by BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir.
