Mayor Hanif’s 14th death anniversary observed

DHAKA, Nov 28, 2020 (BSS) – The 14th death anniversary of Mohammad
Hanif, the first elected mayor of Dhaka City Corporation and former
president of Dhaka City Awami League, was observed in the city today.

Various organizations including Dhaka South and North City
Corporations, Dhaka City Awami League and its associate bodies,
Chhatra League, Mayor Mohammad Hanif Memorial Foundation, Bangabandhu
Sangskritik Jote and Mayor Mohammad Hanif Smriti Sangsad took several
programmes to mark his death anniversary.

The programmes included offering of Fateha at his grave at Azimpur
in the city, holding of Doa, Milad-Mahfil and memorial meetings in the
city.

On the occasion, wreaths were placed at Azimpur graveyard in the
morning on behalf of Dhaka South City Unit of Awami League.

Mayor Hanif’s son and Awami League central committee member Sayeed
Khokon, Lawmaker Haji Mohammad Salim, Dhaka South City unit President
of AL Abu Ahmed Mannafi, its general secretary Humayun Kabir and
former general secretary Shah Alam Murad were present, among others,
at Azimpur graveyard.

Dhaka South City unit of AL organized a memorial meeting at the
central office of the Awami League at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.

Awami League (AL) joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif
addressed the memorial meeting as the chief guest.

Dhaka South City unit President of AL Abu Ahmed Mannafi presided
over the function while its General Secretary Humayun Kabir also spoke
there.

Hanif, a close aide to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman, was critically injured in the grenade attack on August
21 in 2004, and died at city’s Appollo Hospital on November 28 in 2006
at the age of 62.
