PM initiates global culture of peace following Bangabandhu’s principles: Momen

DHAKA, Nov 19, 2020 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina initiated ‘culture of peace’ following the principles of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the world that has been adopted by 193 countries.

“Bangabandhu was very peace loving personality while the core feature of ‘culture of peace’ (initiated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina) is to increase respect among people to people,” he said.

The foreign minister was speaking as the chief guest at a virtual meeting titled ‘Political Philosophy of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman”, organised by philosophy department of Barishal University.

Dr Momen said Bangladesh has secured the top position among troops sending countries to the UN peace keeping missions for many years following the principles of Bangabandhu.

“Bangabandhu had set the cardinal principle of our foreign policy –friendship to all and malice to none – and we are still pursuing it,” he said.

Noting that during Bangabandhu’s time the world was divided into two blocks — Western and Soviet — Momen said, “After our independence, Bangabandhu did not join any block rather he had joined the non-aligned platform”.

“Bangabanhu had even extended friendship to the countries, those opposed us during our Liberation War, considering welfare and development of country,” he said.

Dr Momen said Bangabandhu’s one of the major principles was to maintain communal harmony.

“To show respect to all irrespective of party and faith was a major virtue of his (Bangabandhu’s) character … We have still been following his footsteps,” he said.

The foreign minister said Bangabandhu had not only dreamt of realizing ‘Sonar Bangla’, but also transmitted that dream to mass people.

“Bangabandhu’s political philosophy is today’s Bangladesh,” Dr Momen said.

Barishal University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Sadequl Arefin and Philosophy department chairman Qazi Shoebur Rahman also took part at the discussion, among others.
