Proposals to celebrate historic March 7, 2021 placed at inter-ministerial meeting

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2020 (BSS) –Some proposals were made at an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid at the conference room of the Cultural Affairs ministry this morning to mark the ‘historic March 7’ day as a national day for the first time.

The meeting was told that the historic 7th March speech in 1971, delivered by the founder President of the country Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be broadcast simultaneously on March 7 next in all public and private televisions, radio channels and educational institutions across the country coinciding with the time of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic speech (3:20 pm) on March 7, 1971 at the then Race Course Maidan, now Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.

On this occasion, the national programme will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be invited to be present in person or virtually as the chief guest, the meeting added.

Initially, the March 7 speech will be subtitled in 6 official languages of the United Nations and later with the help of Bangladesh Missions abroad, necessary steps will be taken to translate it into maximum number of languages.

It was proposed at the meeting that the Cabinet Division would issue necessary instructions on hoisting the national flag in that day as the day was included as a National ‘A’ class(‘Ka’ Sreni) day.

Other several important issues and decisions were taken at the meeting.

These include the celebration of the historic March 7 with due dignity and importance in foreign missions, the celebration of the day in all educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities in line with the national programme, arrangement of various programmes in all districts and upazilas through district and upazila administration and district Shilpakala Academy, involvement of freedom fighters in district, upazila and national level programmes and determination and implementation of own programmes of all departments and agencies under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

In order to commemorate the historic March 7, the Ministry of Culture would set up its own cell and the Ministry of Information would give the President and the Prime Minister’s messages on the occasion of day.

Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Badrul Arefin and Liberation War Affairs Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh were present at the meeting, among others.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of various ministries, departments and agencies.
