President for ensuring justice for litigants

DHAKA, July 28, 2019 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today called
upon the judges to take appropriate steps on how to ensure justice for
litigants by reducing their sufferings at the prevailing situation.

“Ensure justice for litigants by reducing their sufferings,” the
President told judges while receiving Bangladesh Supreme Court’s
Annual Report-2019 at Gallery Hall of Bangabhaban here this evening.

He added that the Supreme Court, as the country’s apex body, would
take pragmatic measures so that litigants’ sufferings could be
reduced.

A judges’ delegation of both Supreme Court (SC) and High Court
Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, submitted the
annual report of SC to the President, press secretary Md Joynal Abedin
told BSS.

About the golden jubilee of country’s independence that falls next
year, President Hamid hoped that the judiciary would be able to make
independence meaningful by ensuring justice at all levels and reaching
its benefits at the doorsteps.

During the meeting, the President was apprised of by the chief
justice about different aspects of the report and overall activities
of the Supreme Court, especially the role during the Coronation
period.

The head of the state expressed his satisfaction over the entire
activities of the Supreme Court and also lauded different initiatives
taken by the SC.

Abdul Hamid thanked all concerned, including the officers and
employees of the Judiciary, for conducting the trial proceedings in a
virtual manner during COVID-19 pandemic.

He said many officials and employees of the judiciary were tested
positive for Coronavirus and also died of the lethal virus.

This sort of role of the Judiciary during the crisis period is
undoubtedly commendable, the President added.

Other delegation members were Justice Mohammad Iman Ali, Justice
Mirza Hussain Haider, Justice Tariq ul Hakim, Justice Obaidul Hassan,
Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Naima
Haider.

Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
