59 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Nov 5, 2020 (BSS) – Fifty-nine more people were tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) today in Rangpur division showing a sharp rise in the infections during the last 24 hours.

Health officials said the 59 new infected cases were reported today after diagnosing 374 samples collected from the division at the two COVID-19 laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur at the infection rate of about 15.77 percent.

Earlier on Wednesday, 36 new positive cases were reported after diagnosing 326 samples collected from the division at these laboratories in the division at the infection rate of 11.04 percent.

Among the 59 new patients diagnosed today, 25 were reported after diagnosing 186 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“Among the new 25 patients, 10 are hailing from different places of Rangpur and three each from Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha districts,” said Principal (In-charge) of RpMC Professor Dr Mahfuzer Rahman.

On the other hand, 34 more new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 34 new COVID-19 patients include 28 of Dinajpur, three of Panchagarh, two of Nilphamari and one of Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS tonight after completing the testing process at 7 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS tonight that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 13,068 as 59 new cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the 13,068 patients stands at 3,144 in Rangpur, 689 in Panchagarh, 1,167 in Nilphamari, 904 in Lalmonirhat, 941 in Kurigram, 1,258 in Thakurgaon, 3,732 in Dinajpur and 1,233 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
