Commercial Display Room opened at Bangladesh mission in Nigeria

DHAKA, Oct 31, 2020 (BSS) – A Commercial Display Room has been set
up at the Bangladesh High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria with a wide
range of exhibition of Bangladesh’s exportable goods and products.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and Nigerian Industry, Trade and
Investment Minister Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo jointly inaugurated
the room on Friday, said a press release here today.

The Commercial Display Room has a wide range of exhibition of
Bangladesh’s exportable goods and products including, pharmaceuticals,
ceramics, jute and leather, ready-made garments and knitwear,
handicrafts, tea, electrical, home appliances and agro-products.

Tipu Munshi joined the inaugural function virtually while Otunba
Richard was present in person at the function at Bangladesh High
Commission in Abuja. Bangladesh High Commissioner to Nigeria Md
Shameem Ahsan gave the welcome speech at the function.

Both the ministers of Bangladesh and Nigeria welcomed the
initiative of the Bangladesh mission and observed that it would help
the foreigners, especially potential Nigerian importers and investors,
to gather knowledge about export potentials and investment environment
of Bangladesh.

Noting that there has been phenomenal rise in bilateral trade
recently from US$ I 1.27 million (FY 2018-19) to US$ 144.75 million
(FY 2019-20), both the ministers stressed on utilisation of huge
potentials between Bangladesh and Nigeria for the benefit of the two
friendly countries.

Tipu Munshi expressed satisfaction over the opening of the display
room coinciding with the year-long programmes to celebrate the birth
centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Expressing his desire for stronger commercial and trade links with
Nigeria, he said, Bangladesh attaches great importance to its
relations with Nigeria, biggest economy of Africa and 6th largest oil
producer in the world.

Otunba Adebayo commended the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina for the development journey.

He urged Bangladeshi investors for joint venture in Nigeria
including in RMG or textile sector which would allow duty and quota
free access to ACFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area) region-the
largest free trade area of the world as well as in USA as Nigeria is a
member of ACFTA and AGO A (Africa Growth and Opportunity Act).

On the side line of the inauguration, both the ministers launched
Nigerian-Bangladeshi Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) and Nigeria-Bangladesh
Business and Technology Forum (NBBTF).

Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin, senior officials from the
commerce and the foreign ministries, Nigerian officials and business
and chamber leaders joined the function, among others.
