Young players’ performance a positive sign: Akram

DHAKA, Oct 25, 2020 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operations chairman Akram showered a huge praise on the young players, stating that their performance is the positive sign for the country’s cricket.

The junior players indeed showed they are ready to make it big after displaying worthy performance, even sometimes better than the senior players.

Amongst the senior players, apart from Mushfiqur Rahim and Rubel Hossain, no one else could do justice to the name considering the performance. On the other hand, the list of young people in this regard is quite large.

Akram Khan, also the former skipper of Bangladesh, sang youngsters victory for a good reason.

“The positive thing is that some young players have scored run, taken wickets. Not all senior players did well but some of them could justice to their name. The tournament, I believe, will hopefully get them back in form,” Akram said here today.

Saifuddin, Irfan Shukkur, Afif Hossain, Touhid Hridoy, Ebadat, Sumon Khan and Shariful Islam–these names are probably the most pronounced in the three-team one-day tournament organized by the BCB.

There is a reason behind this as young pace bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin tops the list of the best bowlers along with Rubel, taking 12 wickets in four matches of the tournament. Sumon Khan is next with nine wickets in three matches. That means two of the top three bowlers are young.

In batting although Mushfiqur Rahim is at the top with 219 runs in five matches with a century and two fifties, his next two are young at the same time. Irfan Shukkur scored 215 runs in the same number of matches as Mushfiqur. Afif Hossain scored 156 runs in five matches.

Akram Khan, however, said they were not worried because of the off-form of most of the players as they came back to the competitive after a long Covid-19 forced hiatus.

“Naturally, the players came on the field after many days, so not everyone will do well. Best of all, Taskin was injured, came back from there and played well. Rubel also did well. So what’s most important to us is that we’ve got everyone back on the field, that’s a positive aspect for us. It is difficult to perform back on the field after so long. It’s taking a while to adjust, we’re not worried about that,” Akram concluded.
